The <a href="https://www.uefa.com/euro2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">European Championship organiser UEFA</a> (Union of European Football Associations) is giving Fortuna Düsseldorf's home ground an internationally understandable name for the European Football Championship. The Merkur Spiel-Arena will become the ‘Düsseldorf Arena’ for the duration of the tournament. Five European Championship matches will take place there:

From the outside, the multifunctional arena presents itself as a gigantic rectangle with a fully closable roof. Inside, football fans can expect the perfect stage for big matches. The red, yellow, blue, grey and black seating shells in the stands are striking. In combination with the green pitch turf, they symbolise the colourfulness of the world. The transparent façade, which conceals aluminium pipes, is also a particular eye-catcher. Each with a diameter of a classic Düsseldorf Altbier glass, they serve as a windbreak and projection surface for colour games. The stadium seats 47,000 spectators on European Championship match days. 
The Düsseldorf Arena is located in the northern part of the city in the Stockum district. The Rhine and the Düsseldorf International Trade Fair Centre are in the immediate vicinity. The quickest and most environmentally friendly way to reach the stadium is to take the Rheinbahn line U78. From the stop Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord, it is a 250 metre walk to the stadium in around 3 minutes.

The federal and state governments, the ten host cities, UEFA and the German Football Association (DFB) all agree that the 2024 European Men's Football Championship should be particularly climate-friendly. As a national partner of UEFA EURO 2024, Deutsche Bahn, among others, will be transporting football fans to the European Championship matches in Düsseldorf in an environmentally friendly way. With Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof in the city centre district and the station at Düsseldorf Airport (DUS), the green metropolis is ideally connected to regional and long-distance transport. 
A ticket for a European Championship match entitles the holder to a free 36-hour ticket for the entire network of the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr (VRR) and the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg (VRS). It is valid from 06:00 on the day of the match until 18:00 the following day. This ticket makes travelling to the football stadium very easy.

At <a href="https://www.bahnhof.de/en/duesseldorf-hbf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof</a>, travellers will discover several bakeries, cafés and restaurants serving regional and international dishes before setting off for the European Championship stadium. With a food market, a pharmacy, a chemist and shops selling fashion, accessories, floristry, technology, coffee specialities, press and books, Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof is also an inviting place to take a stroll. The <a href="https://www.einkaufsbahnhof.de/duesseldorf-hauptbahnhof/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mein_EinkaufsBahnhof</a> website provides detailed information on the catering facilities and shops at the station. You can also withdraw money at the Reisebank. Toilets are located next to the station mission on the ground floor of Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof. To store luggage, lockers are available in the connecting corridor from the main passage to the station's north tunnel. Take the U78 from Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof to the Düsseldorf Arena:

<li>At Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, take the U78 at platform 1 on level -1 in the direction of Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord and get off at the last stop.</li>
<li>From the stop Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord, walk about 500 metres along Arena-Straße to the stadium.</li>

The travel time is 20 minutes and the walk from the underground station to the stadium takes around 3 minutes.

In the Lohausen district, there are several connections from the station <a href="https://www.bahnhof.de/en/duesseldorf-flughafen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Düsseldorf Flughafen</a> for onward travel to the European Championship stadium after landing by plane. The station with connections to the S-Bahn, regional and long-distance trains is located on the eastern edge of the airport site. The SkyTrain suspension railway connects the airport with the station. It takes travellers from Terminals A, B and C to the station in 7 minutes. WiFi is available free of charge at the station. If you would like to go shopping or grab a bite to eat before travelling to the stadium, you will find a wide range of offers at the airport of Düsseldorf. There are numerous shops as well as bakeries, restaurants, cafés and bistros both in the security area and on the public arrivals and departures level. The <a href="https://www.dus.com/-/media/dus/reisende/shoppen-und-geniessen/lageplan/lageplan_shops-und-restaurants_0424-v3.ashx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">site plan of the airport</a> provides an overview. From the station Düsseldorf Flughafen, take the RE1, RE5, RE6 or RE11 in combination with the U78 to Düsseldorf Arena:

<li>At the station Düsseldorf Flughafen, take the RE1 towards Aachen Hauptbahnhof or the RE5 towards Koblenz Hauptbahnhof at platform 4 and travel to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof.</li>
<li>Alternatively, take the RE6 at platform 6 in the direction of the station Köln/Bonn Flughafen or the RE11 in the direction of Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof and travel to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof.</li>
<li>At Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, change at platform 1 on level -1 to the U78 in the direction of Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord and travel to the final stop.</li>
<li>From the stop Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord, walk about 500 metres along Arena-Straße to the stadium.</li>

The travel time is between 31 and 39 minutes, the walking time from the underground station to the stadium is around 3 minutes.
 
From the station Düsseldorf Flughafen, take the S1 in combination with the M1 and the U78 to the Düsseldorf Arena:

<li>At the station Düsseldorf Flughafen, take the S1 towards Solingen Hauptbahnhof at platform 4 and travel to Unterrath.</li>
<li>At Unterrath, change to the low-floor bus M1 at platform 5 in the direction of Freiligrathplatz and travel to Freiligrathplatz.</li>
<li>At the stop Freiligrathplatz on platform 2, change to the U78 in the direction of Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord and travel to the final stop.</li>
<li>From the Merkur Spiel-Arena/Messe Nord stop, walk about 500 metres along Arena-Straße to the stadium.</li>
</ul>
The travel time is 33 minutes, the walking time from the underground station to the stadium is about 3 minutes.

To get to the Düsseldorf Arena on the site of the time-honoured Rheinstadion, you can also travel by bike. Bikes can be hired cheaply directly at Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof. There you will find the <a href="https://www.zwd.de/dienstleistungen/radstation/bike-hire/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bike station</a> at Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz with an attractive selection of adult bikes, children's bikes and accessories. The bike sharing providers <a href="https://www.callabike.de/en/home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Call a Bike</a> and <a href="https://www.nextbike.de/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nextbike</a> are also represented in the Rhine metropolis.
The European Championship stadium is clearly signposted throughout Düsseldorf. From Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof, a route of almost seven kilometres leads northwards to the Düsseldorf Arena. It runs through the Japanese-influenced Little Tokyo neighbourhood and past several parks in the old town. These include the historic Hofgarten, which lies like a green island in the centre of the city. The scenic cycle route always runs close to the river, along Rheinpark Golzheim and Nordpark. There are numerous bike parking spaces in front of the Hotel Tulip Inn at the stadium.
<h3 id="travelling-to-the-düsseldorf-arena-by-car">Travelling to the Düsseldorf Arena by car</h3>
Football fans can also visit the Düsseldorf Arena by car. The A44 motorway runs directly past the neighbouring exhibition grounds. During the European Championship matches, however, parking at the stadium is limited to car park P1 at the north-west entrance. A parking ticket is not available on site, but must be reserved in advance via the <a href="https://messe-parken-duesseldorf.de/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">UEFA booking portal</a> or the <a href="https://www.merkur-spiel-arena.de/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arena's event calendar</a>. The parking fee per vehicle is € 24.
From the motorway exit AS29 Düsseldorf-Messe, drivers reach the car park after around one kilometre. The route initially leads north-westwards in the direction of Stockumer Höfe. Visitors to the European Championship should follow the road for around 400 metres, then turn left onto Lotzweg and reach the car park after a further ten metres. There is no shuttle bus available from the car park to the stadium. You should therefore plan to walk for just under 20 minutes. The route leads via Lotzweg and Am Staad to Arena-Straße, where the European Championship stadium is located.
As traffic around the Düsseldorf stadium will increase during the European Championship match days and this will lead to longer journey times, the use of public transport is recommended.If you want to drive to the European Championship stadium despite the increased traffic on match days, you can use a Park &#x26; Ride facility in the vicinity of the stadium. Park &#x26; Ride facilities are directly connected to the public transport network. Alternatively, the  station pages linked above also provide information about parking facilities at the station.
