Just in time for the Baden-Württemberg Landesgartenschau, the station Wangen (Allgäu) has been given a new lease of life. New colours inspired by the region and local plants now beautify the station. The station forecourt and platforms have also been redesigned as part of the modernisation. A pleasant journey to the Landesgartenschau is now guaranteed.
The first measures to improve the station began in 2018. This began with the construction of the pedestrian subway and lifts. The extension of the platforms was also started at this time. Now, seven years later, the renovated station is a sight to behold.
Many of the new features are a reference to the Landesgartenschau, which will take place in Wangen from 26 April 2024 to 6 October 2024. If you look closely, you can now see the influence of Allgäu nature and the garden event at the redesigned station. The subway has been tiled in the colours of the Landesgartenschau and an Allgäu flower meadow. The colours can also be found on the transformer house on platform 1. The new platform roof was also given a fresh, green colour. Travellers and visitors can now admire the modern platform from a new, adapted seat. The previous benches were replaced with individual seats as part of the remodelling work, meaning that there is now room for more people than before.
The redesign of the station forecourt also focussed on nature. The pavements and the path to the station building and the subway have been landscaped and are now lined with newly planted trees and plants. Travellers and visitors can now also make themselves comfortable on the station forecourt on so-called open space kits. These are large beds filled with plants from the Allgäu flora and benches have been installed for travellers to relax on.
