The 240-metre-long LED light strip of the light-emitting platform edge is expected to ensure greater attention and safety on the two S-Bahn platforms at Leipzig Hauptbahnhof from 2025. The light-emitting platform edge will complement the existing coloured and tactile markings near the tracks.

In the first phase, the light-emitting platform edge at Leipzig Hauptbahnhof will display two different light patterns. Red flashing light and red continuous light will then be visible on the platforms. The continuous red light signals that you should keep your distance from the platform edge. A flashing red light strip, on the other hand, indicates the arrival or departure of an S-Bahn.

Later, in a second phase, the colour white is added to the lighting pattern. White, moving light will then indicate the area in which an arriving train will stop. This allows you to make your way to the correct platform area before the train arrives.

Leipzig Hauptbahnhof is the third station after Bad Cannstatt and Berlin Südkreuz to test the LED guidance system for the light-emitting platform edge.
