Smart City | DB

Cities are facing major challenges as a result of ongoing urbanization. Rising land and energy consumption, growing consumption and noise, as well as the issues of mobility and logistics are preoccupying the environment and its inhabitants. Smart City | DB rethinks living spaces and aims to improve the quality of life for travellers and city dwellers with needs-based product development.

A woman stands with her smartphone in front of a train station and looks into the distance.

In order to create attractive places in the heart of the city, Smart City | DB is developing railway stations into points of attraction. Safety and cleanliness form the basis for a place with a high quality of stay. In order to create a positive basic feeling, suitable colour, lighting and furnishing concepts as well as sheets for greening the station area are being developed.

In addition to increasing the attractiveness of the locations, new utilisation concepts are being developed. This transforms train stations into Places – central locations at the pulse of urban life.

Intelligent pick-up stations such as Box – Die Abholstation allow visitors of stations time-saving and easy access to ordered goods. In addition, they support the logistical last mile through their cross-provider system, as they prevent unnecessary delivery trips.

Micro-Depots are available as locations within the city where goods arrive via established parcel and general cargo logistics networks and are further finely distributed from here in carbon neutral small vehicles.
