Route renovation between Berlin and Hamburg

Due to the heavy traffic on the line between Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and Berlin Hauptbahnhof, it is being converted into a high-performance network through construction work. From August 2024 to mid-December 2024, some stops on the line will therefore be cancelled or covered by replacement services. Long-distance trains will run every hour. Travellers are asked to find out about the possible connections in advance of their journey.

Updated:
Construction work on a track and a platform.

During the construction work, necessary maintenance measures for the tracks will be carried out.

Maintenance and renewal work is currently being carried out on the Berlin-Hamburg line. The most important changes are summarised here:

Long-distance trains between Hamburg and Berlin will only run every hour. The stops in Büchen, Ludwigslust and Wittenberge will be cancelled completely during the construction phase. A replacement service has been set up between Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and Wittenberge, which also stops in Ludwigslust. Trains will also stop in Salzwedel and Stendal and alternate hourly in Lüneburg and Uelzen. Travellers must be prepared for a longer journey time of an additional 45 minutes.

On the IC line Warnemünde - Wittenberge - Magdeburg - Leipzig, the stops Warnemünde, Rostock, Bützow, Bad Kleinen, Schwerin, Ludwigslust, Wittenberge and Stendal will be cancelled. The train only runs between Magdeburg and Leipzig.

Please check in advance of your journey whether there have been any new changes to your connection. The adjusted timetables are available in all information and booking systems.
