Inspired by the feedback from users of bahnhof.de, various adjustments and further developments were implemented on the website to improve orientation at the station and during the journey.
New functions for the train board
The digital train board shows the next departures and arrivals at a station. Various new developments now also allow journeys to be filtered according to different train types. It is now possible to filter by long-distance trains, regional trains and suburban trains within the train board. Local public transport services are also displayed. Depending on the station, only the filters for the means of transport that actually run there are shown. For example, departure times for ferries in Hamburg or the suspension railway in Wuppertal are available. For better recognition, many suburban trains, underground trains and, in some cases, trams and buses are displayed in the usual local line colours.
The number of trains displayed has also been adjusted following numerous customer feedbacks. If you filter by long-distance transport, for example, more trains are now displayed throughout the day. In addition, the list of intermediate stops on bahnhof.de can be fully expanded. Another plus point: many intermediate and destination stops have a link to the corresponding detail page of the station. This means that information about the destination station can be consumed directly without having to switch pages again.
The display has been optimised for mobile devices. The filters are conveniently placed at the bottom of the screen. The display has also been optimised for accessibility. The site has been developed for people with visual impairments who use screen readers (for iOS and Android) and therefore offers support to the displays at the station.
Tools for the digital station map
With the new station marker, a location marker has been added to the digital station map, which marks the location of the station. This makes it easier to recognise the station in the context of its surroundings - even when zoomed out.
The marker helps with orientation, especially for smaller stations, as these are often not easily recognisable on the map. This means that travellers and visitors do not have to spend a long time searching for their station, rail replacement services or parking spaces on the digital map. The digital station map can be found on the respective station page.
Digital timetables updated daily
The yellow paper timetables on the platforms usually show detailed information on trains and departure times. However, in the event of unplanned irregularities, travellers and visitors on the platform need up-to-date information that the timetables on site cannot provide on a daily basis.
The latest version of these timetables is now released on bahnhof.de. In the event of timetable changes, the corresponding modified timetables will also be available. These can be accessed via the page of the respective station under "Timetables" in the "Mobility" sub-category. Alternatively, the information can be downloaded directly on the platform via a QR code on the yellow timetables.
